    Heyyyy!

First, I was thinking "ok..... let's write a blog post on the my favourite catch up with the friends while I was in Malaysia..." and it happened to be the CNY gathering @ my house and so... "it shall now be a full Chinese New Year related post" :D

I know... CNY happened two and a half months ago and I am only writing this up now... -.- but HEHE :D I have really been a bit busy... My daily uni life is totally eating me up alive and when I do have time, I don't have much time for blogging..

But but, I still am sticking to my good blogging roots and keeping up with the backlogs!

So...., here goes, the CNY spirit :D

Let's start with a picture of my first day's(大年初一) outfit-of-the-day and the face-look-of-the-day!
The cheongsam is from Stanley Market in Hong Kong! :)

And then on to the CNY must have, Lou Sang/Lou Hei/鱼生,

The traditionally normal ones. And also the first one I had for the year @ Chuai Heng, Jalan Bukit Bintang.

And a new found love this year, the Japanese kind of 鱼生! I LOVEEEEE IT!!!! Had two different plates this year and they were both AWESOMEEEEE! I love the sashimi!!! Of course. And I love the seaweed and the tempura batter crumbs and the jellyfishes!!! Plus I am sure the sauce is different. I like this version sooooooo much more!!

A very awesome one from Sakae Sushi with extra salmon sashimiiiiiiii!! Thick fat cuts of sashimi!

One from Nihon Kai as it was prepared by my cousin since he is the head chef there :)

    The lunch @ Chuai Heng.

I especially love these peking duck skin wrap things!

This year, since my grandma was ill, we've decided we weren't going back to Raub(my hometown) for CNY. But then, on the first day of CNY, it just felt so different and just as tho something was missing. Soo.... we went on an impromptu day trip back to Raub just to feel some CNY spirit :D

Because..., every year without fail, since I was a baby, we will definitely head back to Raub and celebrate the eve and CNY there. I am so used to the smell of food and it's preparations and the smell and the smoke of eyes watering joysticks and the loudness of laughters of people and gambling sessions. So, of course this year felt different. But at least we did make a day trip and had dinner with the rest of the relatives and for that day, it felt like a usual CNY celebration :)

Mummy dearest and baobei nam nam :D

Next up was a BBQ gathering with the rest of the familia and for the first time, the boyfriend was around to join. As usual, the KL venue will always be in my house :)

As usual, my aunt will definitely whipped out her specialty noodles!

    The BBQ stuff. Yummeh~!

And the next agenda was, having CNY dinner with the boyfriend and his family and my mum :)

To me, it was a happy moment and such a blessing! :)

Next was, attending an open house @ Ulu Kelang with mum. It was a garden/outdoor thing and the food was really good!

    :)

After the open house, mum dropped me off @ SS15's Tong Pak Fu to meet up with the boyfriend for after dinner dessert. As he was there with his friends and I just went and join in the fun :D

Shared their Durian Snow Ice with the bf :)

The boyfriend's high school buddies and I am the odd one out :D HAHA! But they are such nice people and so easy to get along with!

Whilst we are on the bf's friends topic, I also joined some of his friends(CX,CY and JW) and went for brunch with them in Klang :)

*Restaurant Gold Leaf Village in Klang*
Was there purposely for that claypot bowl of Tau Fu Kang(thick tofu soup with crabmeat and eggs) and it tasted pretty good :) And... those salted egg pumpkins were SOOOO GOOOOD!! Its like salty and crunchy on the outside and on the inside, its soft and sweet! SO YUMS! My first time eating that and I was OMGGGG! Especially when eaten hot :)

The mantis prawn dish :) Half cooked with nestum and the other was sweet and sour I think?

It was superrr heavy brunch ok... Ate rice and soup and meat and all that at 11am!

Then after lunch, they've decided to gamble together and after all the deliberations, the small gambling session was held @ my house. They wanted to mahjong so yeaps :)

    *Gambling sessions*
We had sessions @ JW's house for two nights and it was fun!! I am starting to get to know more and more of the boyfriend's friends and its been really nice :)

First was a BBQ party with them and then numerous gambling sessions and movies and lunches and yumcha sessions too :) Nice!

*Next, some poker chips session @ Wei Jun's.*
Which we played "in between" and I lost RM5 but the boyfriend won like 20+ I think? I am not sure if you guys could tell, but that pile of chips and notes in the middle easily has RM150 in there man.. We didn't stay that long so yeah.. I am not sure what was the rest of the damages throughout the night.

    And onto my favourite part..,

    *CNY session @ My house*

But first, before the session, I had some girl time with my girls at Chillis in Empire for dinner and then only the four of us adjourned back to my house for the night session with the rest of the peeps. Bought some booze for the "house party" too :P

We also had a very brief girly time of nail polishes and reminiscing through old yearbooks :) Brief because people started arriving earlier than the planned time haha

I think this was still when the boys were on some god knows what topic and the girls were engrossed with their phones :)

I think we played rounds of BlackJack first.. and mind that JS being typical himself, "trying to be funny" :D YY and Pat only played BlackJack because they had to leave early for another thing.

Them explaining the rules of the game Kings/Rings of Fire. And then ah....., Let the game begin! As you can see, the center cup is ready and tim brought the Johnny Walker Black Label. This was when the night came alive!

This was somewhere in the middle of the game when one of the rule was "Cannot show teeth ah!" So yeah... everyone was either talking with hands or shirts covering their mouths or not opening them at all and just kept on nodding :D

As you can see, there were a bottle of liquor, red wine and beer and of course iceeee. Everything went into that cup in the middle there...

Out little house party session went on until 4 something 5 in the morning man. From 9pm! or almost 10pm to be exact :) It was so much fun just catching up and doing stupid and funny things as tho all of us were still in high school together!

Even after all that games and drinking, we even sat for an hour more together and just talk. Talk about life mostly.. Its really nice to gather the group once in a while and just catch up with one and another. Always always nice :)

    *Group picture time!*
They conned me on the "do the CNY gong hei pose"... -.- But I still love them nonetheless! :D

We were missing quite a few peeps that night cause they were away at their hometowns. They were greatly missed! I never knew so many of them stays in KL during the festive period as I usually would be in Raub for the first few days.. Even the boyfriend who wanted to be around badly, had to stay in Malacca for the night. Ngaaww... I know I sure have had missed him that night!

*I miss my girls! SOOO MUCH!*
We were somewhat colour coordinated-ish! And the best part is, I don't remember us mentioning about coordinating them. Great minds think alike! :D

Of course it wouldn't be complete without funny faces lah right :P YY dear sooo cuteeee! :D HAHAHA!

And of course shots of us laughing randomly together :D I think it was because we wanted a laughing candid shot, so we asked the boys to come up with something funny that we could laugh about and had WJ take the picture of us :)

    Them ♥︎ the JSSY!

Seriously thank you to the digital age where you could just keep in contact with the smartphones. Without them being at the other end of a 4-inch screen on the whatsapp group chat that we have, I think my life overseas would be so boring and alone... And they keep me going in the sense that, I'll always be able to talk to them whenever and wherever and about anything at all! We will check up on one and another if anyone happens to have had a rough day to support each other or just randomly talk about girly things together and cheers ourselves up :) I miss them! I really do..

I love my friends! I'll always do :)

They made life from high school up until now so much more interesting :D As I've always said, these bunch, are to keep for life!

That's it for the backlogs today :) Not sure what will be coming next, but I'll try to keep with a post a week. Been having some pretty rough days and writing is therapeutic to me at times. So yeapp... Until my next post, take care! (and also send me lots of luck because I think I'll need it... =/)

    Ciao y'all!

    Lots of love,
    Shereena.

  2. Drinks Nights.

    Sunday, April 06, 2014

    Hi hii :D

I am suddenly in the mood to keep up with my old backdated post worthy events that happened while I was back in Malaysia for holidays.

I am taking a break from all the other stuff that is happening in my day to day life right now. It is pretty intense and crazy and I well deserve some sort of break of a couple hours(which translates to the whole day :D HEHE). These couple hours would be consists of series, movie, youtube and blogging(if I am really in the mood). I've been losing the blogging mojo more and more over time.... =/

Anyways, these drinks nights happened during the last days of 2013 and the middle of January :)

This trip home, I went out for TWO alcoholic drinks nights. I kinda like the idea of going out with a bunch of friends and have conversations over alcohol and nice musics. But don't get me wrong, the idea I have is nothing like going clubbing. I mean REAL proper sit down sessions and not dancing around all the time with loud musics that are impossible to converse in and so, what people do is do things that talking is not needed.

But oh wells, in Malaysia the "hipster" drinking places don't really have the kinda of nice music I have in mind but it will have to do. And I am not much of a drinker but I like to talk to people who have had some alcohol in their system because almost always, it'll crack me up with the weirdest funniest randomest things people say.

So first night was, a middle sized group of us went to The Beer Factory @ SetiaWalk in Puchong. That would have been my first visit to the new mall(?) and I must say, I kind of like the surrounding and the outdoor greenery and water concept of the place.

It's not exactly middle size cause it was a table for eleven :D

This bokeh styled picture is to say how much I love the colours in a blurred bokeh picture. All the colours of the lights are like further enhanced and vibrant!

Taken from exactly where I was sitting.

This was the view behind of me :)

I remember I barely had anything to eat that night and so we decided to order a Nachos to share but it ended up more like I ate the whole thing to myself. It was some special for that night and it was like RM12? RM15? But....., it was reallyyyyy good! Totally totally not what I have expected.

Corona! My new favourite beer! It has trumped my old favourite the Hoegaarden. I think I started to get into it after watching the latest Fast and Furious. And the Kilkenny is mostly what the rest drank that night. I think every 4 pints you get a free Kilkenny cup. I think we went back with 4 free cups? And I brought back one :D even tho I didn't drink it. I think the other kind of beer they had was Carlsberg and Guinness Stout? Idk cause I only stuck with my Corona :P

Then halfway while we were chatting and all that suddenly the beer selling ladies came to our table and started pulling and grabbing the boys to sit on the chair in the middle of the place that serves them some sort of drink from a tube?

At first it was Ee Jun who got caught then it was pushed to Wei Jun and he then pushed the lady to En Lin. So.... it was En Lin who went for it and we were just cheering and happy that we weren't the ones who got caught XP

The picture isn't clear because I took it off a projector screen. But you can roughly tell that there is this tube thingy and the drink will end up in your mouth while you're being restrained by those people. Anddddd you see the guy on En Lin's left? We seriously think he is gay cause he kept touching the guys that sits on that chair in a very "touchy" way..

The drinking/happening area in SetiaWalk at night. Beer Factory, Sector 7 and Sky Bar are all the drinking places. And mind you, that isn't even a "skybar" at all..... -.-

But it does look pretty at night.

But also, other than that, I think SetiaWalk is pretty dead at normal times lor.. I don't think it has ever crossed my mind to go there to shop. But maybe to eat? :)

After Beer Factory that night, we went back in Subang and yumcha-ed at Lorong JS in SS15. It is one of those mamak places that we like :D

Second outing was on the 18th of January @ Piccadilly Restaurant in Section 14, PJ.

That night was on a very random note with Ferns and Tim *in the last week and a half, they both celebrated their birthdays, Happy Belated Birthday guys!* :DDD It was super last minute too. But anyways, me and my friends, I think we do more things when it's totally random and unplanned hahah!

This is Piccadilly yo! We were seated right in the middle so imagine another half of that behind me. Basically it is this huge and long mamak plus beer place underneath an apartment building? I knew Piccadilly existed but never knew exactly where it was and how it looks like and when I got there I was like "woah" :D

So..., that night was my first visit to Piccadilly. And the place is not only massively sized for a regular mamak type restaurant but it's menu is massive as well! I think it was like 14/15 pages of varieties of food? They were all printer quite small in a page and it was packed but yet they still have sooooooo many pages of food!

Andddd the beer was like CHEAPPP!

I think a bottle of Hoegaarden came to about RM7.50 or RM8? Mad cheap!!

And the jug of Tiger was really cheap too but I can't remember how much it was..

Tim was like questioning why is it so cheap which is understandable because the beers were all so cheap until it felt a little dodgy... HAHA!

We sat there for quite a number of hours and just chatted away. It has always been a thing for the three of us. We can sit down together and talk about anything and everything amongst us and the conversations will always stay at where it is.

I love my friends!! :D *I have pictures I candidly took of them but I don't think I should put it up.... Because the pictures weren't taken that nicely. They were too engrossed in some conversations until all they look like in the picture is either really weird or really serious HAHA!*

And that's it for this little short post!

I am kinda on a hype now to write about my friends and the people I've been meeting when I was home. Sooo maybe the next post will be of them? or of #100happydays? or both? :D

We shall see how the week turns out first..

    Bye now!

    Much love,
    sher xoxo.

  3. Heyyyyyyy!

I am in the mood for a food review right now rather than on a daily life update :) Review of food places that I like makes me happyyy laaah! Didn't you guys already know how HUGEEEEE of a FOODIE I am?? :DDD

And since I haven't been out much to eat good food here in Melbourne recently(I am leaving the ones I've been to, to be posted in my #100happydays posts), a writeup of a brunch spot in Malaysia shall do!

Soooo.... the much hyped about Garage 51, in my opinion, made the cut for me!

I am very fussy when it comes to brunch style food in Malaysia because I have the luxury of eating the good ones straight from where in came from best which is here in Melbourne. And even that I am being so picky, I found that Garage 51 was pretty good!

In a span of slightly over a month, I went there three times and it was the only spot that I went to, to satisfy my brunch cravings whilst I was back in Malaysia. I think that pretty much double confirms my statement of how much I like the place :)

Garage 51 is this new trendy and happening cafe/brunch spot in KL. The chain first started with Coffee Société in Publika and then this, Garage 51. I was told that the owner is a guy in his later 20s that used to study in Australia and decided to bring the concept back the Malaysia and then the cafe became a huge hit with its good coffee and food!

I want to open a huge hit cafe too! And earn big bucks! But more importantly, sharing to the community the food and it's concept that I love :)

My first visit, was with Steph and Qi Hong. I was like telling them that we HAD to do brunch that weekend and so..., being the typical me, I will research and read up for good places to go to before actually going to the place itself. And Garage 51's name started popping up alot and it seemed to have ticked the boxed for most people, I thought to myself and spoken out loud to them saying, "We should go there!" Moreover, it was just in the Sunway area... so near to where we live!

And since I am so used to the famous brunches in Melbourne, it would also mean, I know that for good brunch spots, there is always a queue. So I was like telling them, we have to get there early to beat the queue! And fortunately for Malaysians, brunch spots or this particular one, doesn't open till 11am and we got there at 11.15am! :D But bear in mind, finding a parking spot in the area can be a tad bit challenging.. The place is located just opposite the side entrance to Sunway College and it the middle of all the other car garages.

But we didn't have to queue at all! :DDDD Was seated straight away on the long communal benches super near the kitchen area.

Eventho we got there early, the place was already almost filled up when we got there..

Me and Steph ordered their Awesome Garage Breakfast! with homemade hash potatoes, diced mushrooms, smoked cured salmon, free-range poached egg and hollandaise. RM19

I LOVED IT! The homemade potato hash is the highlight!! Some may say it is a tad bit on the salty side, but I love my saltier stuff, and so I loved it! The hash is heavy and dense and crunchy on the outside :) The cured smoked salmon was yummy andddd the poached egg was cooked to perfection! And the most important thing for me is, the hollandaise tasted good! You could tell it was freshly made rather than the one's you get from Plan B which just taste and look like it came out from a vacuum sealed jar.

I judge my Malaysian brunch spots based on the sauce they have if there's any. So yeah...., only two has made the cut for me with good hollandaise sauce!

I also ordered their Mochatella! Which is the drink that they are famous for!

Basically it is nutella served with coffee ice cubes and a small jug of milk. I was so fascinated by it and it was really yummyyyyyyy! But....., it is very much on the pricey side. RM15 for it.. ):

Qi Hong ordered their Media-Lunas. Croissant with wild mushrooms, tomato-onion and smashed avocado. RM17. And I think he said it was quite good?

    My brunch kakis that morning!

    wheeeeeeee :D

Had an artsy shot moment :P

Stephy, my beloved girlfriend whom I've known since I was five(with photo evidence but not much in memory). But reunited when we were in Form 1! Both of us went into a supposed one person toilet because we saw this huge ass mirror and it was a call for a picture together :D

There is this red vintage car outside of the place which is just a shell of a volkswagen beetle but with a table in it.

Nice to take picture in but.... it smelled so bad due to the drain but we endured it to capture the shot. Girls :P

After brunch, we went on to Bangsar and had a little shopping adventure with all the boutiques in the Bangsar Telawi area.

    My OOTD.
    Cropped top: Supre
Paperbag high waisted shorts: Forever New
My necklace which was in the previous pictures: Valleygirl

My second visit was with Gun and Jeff (DiGi colleagues). It was for lunch on one of the working days. And yeahh..., we do drive out pretty far just for lunch :D I think this visit was in the same week as when I went the first time.

The story behind it was pretty funny lor.., just before lunch time at work, I posted the picture of the Awesome Garage Breakfast I had on my instagram saying how yummy it was and also was torturing myself with the picture as my stomach was growling and it wasn't lunch time yet but almost time. Then suddenly Gun said, "we will go to Garage 51 for lunch ok?" And then I was like, O.....K :D Then I mentioned saying I just posted the picture up on my IG and he was like "you will be posting another one soon :D"

And that day was a weekday at around 12 noon, the place was still pretty empty. Means, seated right away too!

This time we also sat on the same communal table but further away from the kitchen and so, I could take a better picture of the name! As you can see, there are also tables above the kitchen.

The coffee making area over there.... *virtually pointing it out*

This time, I ordered their Mocha. I think it was RM9? HEHEHE Had to put in two pictures of it cause I can't choose which is better :D

    My lunch!

I love their hash so much but also wanted to try something different, so I went for the Maria Parloa. with homemade hash potatoes, chicken ham slices, diced mushrooms, free-range poached egg and hollandaise. It is the same as the Awesome Garage Breakfast, just that this is with chicken ham slices rather than the smoked cured salmon. RM19.

Still the same kind of goodness!! Lunch that day was on the luxury side but it was sooo yummyinmytummy!!

My third visit, was with my family. Initially it was suppose to be just me and mum but then later on it turned out to be a table for five plus a little one. But this time, I wasn't so lucky with the seats. Because we needed a table for six, we kinda had to wait quite a while for the table. And going out with the little big rascal Justin, it was a horrendous 30 minutes wait..

Ordered a Red Velvet Cake just for him to start off. RM8.90

    Justin the little BIG rascal!

Ordered Mochatella again :D Them nutella plus coffee ice cubes!

I really like this drink! Such a genius thing!! And the portions of each ingredient is exactly perfect for me! Not too coffee-y but still chocolate-y and milky :)

I ordered the same Awesome Garage Breakfast again :D

Yes, I do love their hash but I ordered the same thing again mainly cause nothing else on the menu appealed to me.. Everything just sounded like "mehh... =/" except the two that I've already tried.

And I have to strongly highlight on their service, it is impeccable! My cousin's Maria Parloa's poached eggs wasn't perfect at all because the yolk inside was no where near runny even a little bit and I only got to know about it from him after he was slightly more than half way through the dish. And then I called the waiter and told him as a feedback that the poached egg wasn't cooked correctly and then he went on and told the kitchen and in my mind I thought "yeah.. maybe they will replace the poached egg itself."

But what shocked me was, they actually replaced for my cousin a whole new plate eventho he has already ate through more than half of it. Such good service leh! I expect this kinda service here in Melbourne but never in Malaysia lor to be honest! Big thumbs up to the people at Garage 51!

Any other thoughts on the place?

I think the selection of food is pretty limited. Well at least to me it is limited. I really love the location and the ambience enough to be back often but I don't want to be ordering the same old thing every time I am back.. They should do more variations with the homemade hash!! :D *side note, I have been reading up about them and they do change their menu every couple of months, which is good! And the current menu sounds and looks quite promising :)*

The portion of the food is fairly small. Maybe because I am too pampered with the Melbourne brunch portion which will be double the portion of what is served at Garage 51. I mean...., the portion is enough for girls(two poached eggs would have been better!), but not for the guys. Or maybe because the targeted market is just to us girls then maybe it makes sense. They should have something with a large portion on the menu too to cater for the guys!

And one more thing, the ratio between the portion and the price doesn't really meet it. It is good food but abit on the expensive side. Or maybe because I spend most of my time in Melbourne, I don't really know the Malaysian brunch culture's pricing and portion as much yet.

But anyways, I really enjoyed the place for it's food, a lot! :)

You can find it here; and do check them out!
    Garage 51
